A true tawny is crafted from wines of the very highest quality, which are left to age in wooden cask for at least 10 years.

This maturation process gradually turns a young wine with immensely powerful purple colour into a wine with a soft amber hue (hence the term tawny).

Traditionally this style of port was only really consumed by the Port shippers themselves. Today, aged tawny is widely available and provides the drinker with an altogether different style to the LBVs and Vintage Ports.

Warre Sir William 10 Year Old Tawny Named after Lt.General Sir William Warre who was born in Oporto in 1784 and served with distinction in the Duke of Wellington's army during the Peninsular campaigns throughout Spain and Portugal. The "soft" nuttiness so associated with wines aged in oak casks is balanced good ripe mellowed fruit.

Warre Sir William is particularly suited to be served slightly chilled in warmer weather and does not require decanting or further ageing.
